Our Open Source Story

To understand PAiCore’s history with open source telecom solutions we have to go back more than 20 years. Back in 2003, the Mobicents open source project was initiated as an early attempt to offer telecom APIs for easy deployment of voice and messaging applications.

This project effectively combined web with telecom protocols, proving to be ahead of it’s time, as it could very well be described as aiming to enable some of what we now know as GSMA Open Gateway and the CAMARA Project.

Around 8 years later in 2011, the Restcomm open source community began to gain traction, as the evolution of the Mobicents project. At it’s peak, this community had thousands of active developers using and contributing to an ever-growing technology stack that made development and deployment of telecom applications much simpler and quicker than traditional licensed alternatives.

Around 2018, this community was left without stewards, and this impressive technology stack was essentially left abandoned due to conflicting strategies between the previous stewards and new investors.

Several of us at PAiCore have been involved since 2015 in providing 24/7 technical support, continuing to improve and even rebuild the Restcomm stack for MNO, MVNOs, system integrators and VAS providers worldwide. More than ten years later, operating from our headquarters in Spain since 2024, and from a dozen countries in 5 continents, PAiCore aims to become the world’s first open source mobile core network provider.

PAiCore is committed to releasing a free open source version of each of our telecom products in an effort to reignite telecom innovation and sustainable profitability for the telecom industry via open source signaling solutions.

I’m a lucky husband and proud dad that’s been blessed to have lived in 8 countries, across 4 continents, over a 20+ year career in telecoms. I’ve worked alongside incredible people and professionals at each stop, building a rich network of connections that is paramount to PAiCore’s diverse background and reach.

This multi-market experience has allowed me to understand that despite major differences in budgets, landscapes and customer bases of more mature economies versus developing countries, the telecom industry has standardized similarities that all networks in any continent must follow. These standards can be delivered via a more inclusive model than the one traditional vendors offer. This is why we believe in an open source approach that gives operators, VAS providers, messaging aggregators and system integrators the freedom to innovate over the technology that we provide them.

At PAiCore we add value by simplifying the complex, breaking the vendor lock-in paradigm the telecom industry has become accustomed to. We do it by offering an open and transparent model that combines highly standardized open source products with specialised customer centric 24/7 technical support and affordable pricing, striving to reignite innovation and sustainable profitability back into telecom.

I am a telco tech entrepreneur, with a passion for innovation and a dedication to driving business success. I founded telXira, a CPaaS provider specializing in white labelled messaging solutions designed for mobile operators. Under my leadership, I steered the company through a critical growth phase that culminated in a successful acquisition.

With over 20 years of experience in telecoms, I have developed a deep understanding of the industry dynamics and across different markets. My experience has equipped me with excellent analytical skills and a strategic mindset, allowing me to craft and implement successful go-to-market strategies that resonate with the evolving needs of customers.

With PAiCore I am committed to exploring the transformative possibilities of Open Source Mobile Core Technologies, advocating for a shift toward a future where standardised technology should be readily available to Mobile operators empowering them to innovate and take back their position at the core of the Telecoms ecosystem.

With over 20 years of experience in the telecoms sector, my team and I, as virtual number veterans and digital MVNO pioneers, have consistently identified emerging opportunities, building and shaping the telecoms landscape.

Always eager to expand into new markets, we are focused on growing our portfolio of CPaaS, eSIM, and MVNO assets. With PAiCore, we can now add Mobile infrastructure-as-Service to that list. Based in London, our projects span Europe, the Middle East, and the US, giving us a truly global perspective on an ever-evolving industry.
