Responsible Monetization of Geolocation

The Gateway Mobile Location Center (GMLC) provides secure, anonymous and standards-based access to subscriber location using network-based positioning methods including SUPL (Secure User Plane Location) where higher accuracy is required, without relying on smartphone apps or GPS tracking, fully respecting user privacy.

OVERVIEW

The GMLC enables mobile operators to support public safety alerts, provide IoT asset tracking information, complement marketing efforts with a geographically relevant perspective, and deliver location-based services (LBS) for personal security and basic authentication use cases.

Mobile operators hold one of the most powerful assets in digital services: location data, yet they often struggle to monetize it safely and efficiently. With PAiCore’s GMLC, operators stay in full control of how geolocation data is used and shared, while supporting high-availability deployments in active-active or active-passive configurations.

PAiCore’s GMLC provides Cell ID information from any 2G/3G/4G/5G mobile network, as well as from any Cellular IoT networks, and enables access to location-based information in an anonymous & secure way via our Geolocation API. This is ideal for any emergency alert system or for IoT device tracking.

CAPABILITIES

Key Features

Network Technologies and Positioning Methods

Supports all available GERAN/UTRAN/E-UTRAN access technologies and positioning methods such as TA, E-CGI, OTDOA/UTDOA, E-OTD and A-GNSS.

Geofence Location Reports

Triggers at the RAN alert target users or Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) when a subscriber enters, remains inside, or leaves a specific area during a specified time period.

Device-Centric Positioning

Thanks to SUPL, positioning information is securely exchanged with mobile devices assisted by Navigation Satellite System technologies, enabling more accurate geolocation information.

High Availability Solution

Active-active setup for maximum performance and load balancing or an active-passive configuration for seamless failover.

Geolocation API

Access of 3rd party applications to LBS, without the need for an active internet connection to track devices efficiently, thus preserving battery life and privacy.

Built-in GUI

User and permissions management, dashboard, query and tracking statistics, map visualization, automated tracking and geofence management.

POSITIONING METHODS

Estimated Accuracy Achievable After Deployment

All methods are network based. Bars show the accuracy range in meters, on a 0–1,500 m scale.

MAXIMUM LATENCY DEPENDING ON THE SCENARIO

GMLC alone< 5 seconds

Basic location queries and responses with minimal processing.

GMLC + SMLC< 10 seconds

Additional processing time for enhanced methods requiring SMLC calculations.

GMLC + SMLC + Enabled UE Features< 10s outdoors · ~35s indoors

Time required for both network-assisted and UE-based calculations, including A-GNSS fixes and assistance data exchange.

USE CASES

GMLC Use Cases

Public safety alerts

Emergency alert systems, with geofence triggers that alert target users or Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs).

IoT asset tracking

IoT asset tracking information and IoT device tracking, including Cellular IoT networks.

Geo-relevant marketing

Complement marketing efforts with a geographically relevant perspective.

Personal security

Location-based services (LBS) for personal security use cases.

Basic authentication

Location-based services (LBS) for basic authentication use cases.

National security services

Mission-critical national security services, as deployed by MTN (via IPLook).

CAMARA LOCATION APIS

Location APIs Powered by PAiCore GMLC

Through the PAiCore Network API Gw, the GMLC exposes CAMARA location APIs to digital services.

Location Verification

The “Location Verification” API determines whether a mobile device is within the proximity of a specified geographical area. Powered by the integration with PAiCore GMLC.

Geofencing Subscriptions

Using the “Geofencing Subscriptions” API, users can create subscriptions for pairs “mobile line – geographic area“, enabling them to receive notifications whenever a mobile line enters or exits the predefined area. Powered by the integration with PAiCore GMLC.

Location Retrieval

It allows to retrieve the area where a specific user device is located. Powered by the integration with PAiCore GMLC.
